Cultivate Your Inner Wisdom With Health Coaching

Who am I? What do I believe? What is my purpose?
Ah. The age old questions. This post won’t dig into the philosophical depths of that self-inquiry (you’re welcome), but I thought it might be helpful to give some information as to who I am, what I believe, and what my intended purpose is as a Holistic Health Coach. Here we go…

We live in a world where so many people are crippled with anxiety and stress (emotional symptoms) and chronic pain and inflammation (physical symptoms). It’s common to know someone who is on a prescription drug or who struggles with their weight or their skin. In the United States alone, we spend billions of dollars each year on healthcare. One in four people die each year from heart disease. About 9.4% of Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes. Just because these things are common does not mean they’re normal.

I believe the answer to a huge amount of non-communicable conditions today is to address the root of these issues, rather than popping a pill or resulting to invasive procedures to lessen symptoms. I believe the ability to achieve and maintain a state of wellness largely lies in our ability to tune in to the messages from our bodies.

I’ve had a fascination with the body-mind connection for as long as I can remember. As a dancer since the age of three and now a regular yogi, I’ve spent so many days of my life using my body to express and release emotions. I notice a strong pull to work out my feelings through movement and breath. All you runners, weight lifters and devoted athletes can surely relate to the innate craving of moving your body in a meaningful way.

Innate cravings. These are the clear, all-telling messages our bodies “speak” that nudge us to attend to our most basic needs. Along with a desire for movement, our bodies tell us when we need things necessary for survival in the form of thirst, hunger, and tiredness.

Nerd alert: Who remembers Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs from Psych 1100?

Now- I’m assuming here- but, if Abraham Maslow was still around to read this post, I feel as though he’d be nodding his head at the Rising Rooted philosophy:

Each day we rise, we are able to make lifestyle choices which root us in a state of well-being. Taking just a few moments to check in with our bodies and minds gives us the foundation we need to rise up and meet the most radiant and loving versions of ourselves.

In other words, self-nourishment (in the form of fresh air, water, sleep, and nutrient dense foods) is the foundation on which we build a life full of security, love, confidence, and fulfillment.

The tricky part is that self-care is not one-size-fits-all. While we all have the same general criteria to be met, we each require a unique combination of resources to best support our lifestyles, age and genetics. And, if we fail to tune into our own truest and deepest biological and emotional desires, our bodies end up screaming at us in the form of physical symptoms and uncontrollable emotions.

I became interested in health coaching when I observed that far too many people have matters regarding their personal wellness drowned out by floods of generalized information coming from external sources. Follow this diet, do this exercise, try this remedy, yada yada yada. But do participants of research studies which support or debunk health and wellness trends possess your thoughts, emotions, schedule, relationships, passions, and genes? What works for some will not work for all.

I am not a doctor- I do not diagnose diseases. I am not a dietitian- I do not treat conditions. I am not a mental health professional- I do not assess emotional and behavioral disorders. My intention as a health coach is to reacquaint your mind with your body. In my program, I will work with you to turn down the volume on the conflicting sources of evidence regarding our health and well-being and help you find the self-care routine which best supports your needs.

Through personalized meditations, self-inquiry exercises, and education regarding basic biology, psychology, and nutrition, you’ll be asked to turn a listening ear toward your innate cravings. In time, you’ll cultivate your inner wisdom- an honest and intuitive guide for making decisions which support you in being your most radiant self each and every day. You’ll begin to override your habituated thoughts and form sustainable rituals which support you physically and emotionally. You’ll become better able to make informed decisions regarding your and your family’s well-being. Soon enough, you’ll find yourself rising each day rooted in behaviors that you know for certain are nourishing for you.
